Teairra Mari

Just a few years ago Teairra Mari was the young girl taking over airwaves with the co-sign from Hov...these days she may not have the Jay-z/Def Jam support and she may not be as young, but she's back to take over the radio and prove she's so serious about this

At the tender age of 17, Teairra Mari blasted her sultry sound through our radio speakers in the summer of ’05 with her summer smash hit “Make Her Feel Good.” The song landed her a spot on the top 10 on the R&B Billboard charts while the track and video received constant radio play and exposure on major networks like BET and MTV respectively. “I always told my friends and family members that I wanted to be famous before age 18,” Marie reminisces. She certainly was living proof of that once Hip-Hop legend Jay-Z picked her to be the female singer of Roc-a-Fella Records.

Along with hard work came many pitfalls that young Teairra was not prepared to face. The pressure began to wind down on her and eventually the record label chose to dismiss her abruptly. “At the time I didn’t know how to mentally differentiate business relationships from personal relationships because it was all new to me,” Mari confesses. As time progressed Teairra has learned to move on from her past and learn from her mistakes in order to become a better artist. Now 22 years old, she is back on the music scene with a whole new image and adult sound. Her new album At That Point drops in early 2010 and this time it collaborates Miss Marie with the talented Kanye West, Flo Rida Pleasure P, Lil Wayne’s affiliate Nikki Minaj and more of today’s hottest artists.

Teairra explains that she is who she is no matter what label she is under. “It feels weird, no label defines me.” She has grown as an artist mentally and her words are deeper on this album now that she is a mature young adult.

When Teairra gets the chance to get away from the music scene she likes to kick back and receive smooth and slow sensual massages and pamperings from a significant other to make her feel good. Aside from her passion and love for music she is also working on her acting skills. She jus got through making a movie called the Magnificent Cooley T, which stars leading actor Jackie Long. Teairra has plenty of exciting big plans set aside for her future, she is certainly living proof that dedication and perseverance can pay off in due time, she is definitely At That Point.

Rising Star ... The Kirko Bangz Interview

Sometimes, it must fall upon the journalist to ensure that what they are hearing in an interview is clear enough that they can truthfully and accurately present their subject's words as quotations. This may require asking for an answer repeatedly, admitting you missed something that could have been important, or actively picking and choosing which quotes should be completely captured in a form of verbal triage. Other times, it may simply require asking the subject to slow down because your cell phone's speaker is woefully inadequate. Such was the case with Kirko Bangz, and regrettably, I did not follow the advice laid out above. The following is what I can transcribe from my conversation with the Houston hopeful, whose Drake on promethazine approach has been reverberating within the scene.
