Last week turned out to be a very good week for Gucci Mane. For an artist who is supposed to be in prison, he is sure creating quite a buzz and doing everything right to keep himself relevant. He recently released his mixtape/street album, The Burrprint 2HD and things just keep getting better.
On Monday of last week, Gucci was announced as one of the artists who would be performing at Hot 97's annual Summer Jam concert. That seemed odd, but no one said anything about it because this is Hip-Hop. On Tuesday, it was announced that Gucci would no longer be represented by his management company, Mizay Entertainment or his booking agency Hitt Afta Hitt Enterprises and would no longer be affiliated with his former label So Icey Entertainment (except for the tattoo on his chest of course). Instead Gucci has launched his own label, 1017 Brick Squad Records where is will serve as CEO and President. The label will also serve as the home for Wacka Flack Flame, and OJ Da Juiceman-the trio also make up Brick Squad, a group project. In addition, Gucci is now represented by First Avenue Management, Inc., and talent agency, CAA.
As if that wasn't enough, it was announced later in the week that on this Wednesday, May 11th, Gucci will be released from prison after serving just seven months of his year long sentence. Gucci had been locked up in November for a probation violation just before his album, The State vs. Radric Davis was released.
WIth all the buzz he has been able to create behind bars, one can only wonder what he can do once he hits the streets. Below is the statement Gucci released through his publicist.
"The rest of 2010 is going to be real major. I'm taking control of all of my business properties and keeping the focus on my career, my music and my artists. All the pieces to the puzzle are finally in place and once I get home it's Gucci time."

Sometimes, it must fall upon the journalist to ensure that what they are hearing in an interview is clear enough that they can truthfully and accurately present their subject's words as quotations. This may require asking for an answer repeatedly, admitting you missed something that could have been important, or actively picking and choosing which quotes should be completely captured in a form of verbal triage.
