Over the last month, Washington has been abuzz with heated rhetoric about the US debt ceiling.  The debate between the Republicans and the Democrats over this issue range from the absurd to the downright insane.  From our vantage point, its difficult to understand whether we as ordinary citizens should be concerned or simply file it away as another DC over-hyped issue.  In order to answer this question we must fully understand the issue.
So, what is the debt ceiling exactly?
Does it mean our debts have risen so high that it can touch the ceiling!
Unofficially yes.. Officially No!   The debt ceiling is a cap set by Congress on the amount of debt the federal government can legally borrow.  Basically, the US gold card...um...I mean platinum card... um...more like Black Diamond credit card has been cut up.  For  most of us, I'm sure our initial thoughts are "well this is a good thing".  But as you dig deeper into the issue you'll find that the obvious answer is not that clear.  Furthermore, the minority community stands the most to lose if the US credit card is not glued back together.
Today, the US debt stands at about $14.29 trillion  dollars.  I couldn't imagine having debt this large! Most of us don't have 1% of this debt in our personal lives.  The reality is this credit is needed to fund obligations already legislated by Congress such as Medicare, Social Security, Welfare, Education loans and a host of other entitlements that many in our community enjoy. Hitting the debt ceiling would hurt the government's ability to finance this programs and thus we will feel the pain in the form of letters saying that the "check is not in the mail".
If Congress fails to raise the debt limit, which is basically refusing to  "glue the US credit card back together",  then the government can no longer borrow funds,  which means other means of US revenue will have to be considered.  That means.. higher taxes.
Most experts agree that the potential negative consequences of this are too catastrophic to contemplate.  Whether it's under funded entitlement programs or higher taxes, the impact of this issue will hit and hurt all of us.   So no matter your political affiliation, please pay attention to the debate.  Then let your Representative know how you feel.
As Washington continues to play politics;  real lives hang in the balance.
Unfortunately, it's usually our lives that feel the blunt of it.   The hits just keep on coming!

credit

There is a dirty little secret in the world of credit cards that the banks would rather you didn’t know. Visa and MasterCard and their large banks, have what is called market power, and they abuse this market power to control payment card markets to impose a private “tax” called an “interchange fee” that consumers must pay to card-issuing banks through merchants on all their credit and debit card transactions. American consumers pay more than we should for virtually all our retail purchases, and the less well-off we are the more we are likely to be overcharged.

Justice

Lately the word justice has been thrown around often in regards to Osama bin Laden being killed. I would be the first to agree bin Laden deserved to die for what he did on September 11, 2001. I also would agree that killing him might have been justice for the lives of 3,000 plus Americans and their families. Justice, though, is a finicky word. Justice demands that you look at all things around you and gauge the priority of some injustices over that of other injustices.

Kelley Williams-Bolar

Earlier this year Kelley Williams-Bolar, an Ohio mother, was convicted of a Felony for lying to get her kids into a better school. Williams-Bolar was convicted by a jury of using her father's address to claim residency status that would allow her two daughters to attend a higher-performing suburban school. Williams-Bolar was put on probation for two years and ordered to complete 80 hours of community service. The conviction may threaten her ability to get the teaching license she was working on.

 Republicans           VS             Republicans

It would appear that the unfairness of our system and the inequalities and injustices that more and more Americans are feeling, have materialized into feelings of anger and resentment toward the status quo and the indignant nature of the policies of those in charge in Washington.

The other day on The Ed Show, a reality about America was revealed, and it should scare the oligarchs that keep feeding us injustice and inequality. Slowly but surely livelong Republicans are starting to realize that they are being duped and swindled. They are realizing that those in the seat of power in Washington are not even pretending to care about them anymore. More and more everyone is starting to ask, “Why can’t we tax the rich more fairly? Why don’t corporations pay more taxes?”
